Parrots and Rabbits puzzle

In this puzzle, assume there are several Parrots and rabbits inside a cage. There are total 72 heads and 200 feet inside the cage.

How many parrots are there, and how many rabbits?

Points to note:

1. None of the parrots and rabbits are ‘handicapped’
2. No parrots / rabbits have any anomalies such as more number of heads / feet than normal
3. The ‘number of heads’ and ‘number of feet’ in the cage are of the aforesaid parrots and rabbits only.

Solution:

Let the number of parrots be ‘x’ and number of rabbits, ‘y’.

We have:

x + y = 72  (1)
2x + 4y = 200  (2)

Solving (1) and (2), we get x = 44 and y = 28. i.e., there are 44 parrots and 28 rabbits.
